Cobbold Gorge Day TourFOR THOSE NOT AT COBBOLD VILLAGE

Is Cobbold Gorge on your Bucket List – yet your travel itinerary is leaving you short of time, or you’re staying somewhere other than Cobbold Village?

You know you simply must visit Cobbold Gorge – it’s a natural wonder of Queensland’s outback savannah, and the youngest gorge in Australia. Tucked away within the rugged sandstone formations of a privately owned and operated cattle station, access is only by guided tour. This enables us to protect the pristine Nature Refuge and ensures that we can share interpretation on the formation of the gorge, as well as history of the region, its culture, flora and fauna. Our award-winning three-hour Cobbold Gorge Tour includes crossing Australia’s first fully glass bridge plus boat cruise along the gorge. Brilliant!

And if you’re not staying at Cobbold Village, you still have the chance to experience the fabulous Cobbold Gorge Tour – simply pop out here as a Day Visitor (and remember, bookings in advance are essential). You have two options:

Day Tours to Cobbold Gorge

The facts WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW & BRING

  • For your Cobbold Gorge Tour you’ll be transported from Cobbold Village to Cobbold Gorge in an air-conditioned 4WD bus.
  • Your Cobbold Gorge Tour is three-hours duration, including travel to and from the gorge, an escarpment walk to the top of the gorge and over the glass bridge, a boat cruise through the gorge – all with commentary, plus time for loading and unloading of guests in vehicles.
  • Toilet facilities are in the Interpretive Centre / bus shelter at Cobbold Gorge, where you’ll be before and after your gorge tour. There are also toilets located to the left of Reception at Cobbold Village.
  • The walk component of the tour is roughly 2km on a dirt track to the top of the gorge and along sandstone escarpment, across the glass bridge and back. This circuit takes approx. 1-hour 15-minutes to 1-hour 30-minutes, and timing depends on the fitness and speed of the group and how many questions are asked, all while stopping to interpret the geology, flora and fauna along the way. The walk is relatively easy with the reward of a magnificent view of the gorge below. It’s not possible to do just part of the walk, so some guests may choose to sit it out (wait on a seat by the boats, or back at the bus shelter).
  • Your boat cruise runs for 60-minutes. This is mostly silent, with commentary when necessary. It doesn’t matter which end of the boat you sit, as the boat faces the opposite way on the return journey (motor at each end).
  • Please wear closed in walking shoes, a sun-smart hat, sunscreen and bring plenty of water (bottles can be refilled at the Bistro or at the bus shelter before and after the tour, plus limited water is available at the pontoon area, part way through the tour).
  • Remember to bring your camera with plenty of memory available, you’ll need it!

Note: Cobbold Gorge is open seasonally from 1 April to 31 October (and closed November through March).
