Discover a little luxury in the outback as you immerse yourself in the natural wonders of the Gulf Savannah. Embracing the spirit of the outback no longer means giving up the creature comforts of home when you stay at Cobbold Village.
Whether you’re enjoying our wonderful accommodation or peaceful bush caravanning and camping – Cobbold Gorge and Cobbold Village offer modern facilities at your ultimate outback holiday destination, and our village has evolved over the years to provide luxury touches and all the conveniences you’d expect. This includes the ever popular MacDonalds Deck licensed Bar & Bistro which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, serving snacks and the all-important Barista coffees in between, plus a fabulous menu of Cobbold Gorge cocktails. There’s also our award-winning Infinity Pool, complete with swim-up pool bar (possibly a surprise to some in the middle out the Queensland outback!) Both these stunning Village assets provide sweeping views over the adjacent freshwater billabong and golden savannah grasslands beyond, dotted with towering Eucalyptus trees.
Picture perfect and ready for you to come and enjoy and explore.
If you fancy a Hit & Giggle – try some Aqua Golf with Kayaking. You’ll test your golfing skills by trying to hit our floating target, before kayaking out to retrieve our floating balls. There’s a $5 deposit per ball, which is refunded when the ball is returned. The kayaks are available free of charge and small life jackets are available for children; it’s first in best dressed with the kayaks.
Or you might decide to skip the Aqua Golf altogether and simply opt for a cruisy kayak around the billabong spotting birds and wildlife. Either way, what a fun way to spend your afternoon!
Perhaps you’ve forgotten to pack something, maybe searching for a memento of your amazing visit to Cobbold Gorge or have promised a gift for the grandkids. Corbett’s Store is in our Reception building and stocks basic grocery items, including sunblock, toiletries, marshmallows for the campfire, long-life milk and more.
Plus you can purchase laundry powder suitable for our on-site washing machines, located in the Camp Laundry in the amenities block of the Main campground.
And within Reception itself – there’s a fabulous array of souvenirs and gift ideas, including fantastic Work Shirts, Fishing Shirts and Polos in adults and kids’ sizes, peak caps and hats, the essential stubby holder, mugs, drink bottles and of course fridge magnets and Bumper stickers plus books on the local area. It’s definitely worth coming in to browse around!
Water – tap water at Cobbold Village is sourced from the Robertson River. It’s safe to drink, however you might choose to boil it before consumption, otherwise bottled water and ice can be purchased from the Bistro if preferred.
As you’re in drought prone outback Queensland, we ask you to be mindful of water usage – it’s a precious commodity around here, so please don’t waste it.
Cooking – if you’re ready to whip up a feast, there are camp cooking facilities at various places around Cobbold Village, including several free gas BBQ areas, a small Camp Kitchen (with communal fridge) in the main Amenities block, plus campfire rings throughout the campground – all available for you to test your outback cooking skills!
Campfires – all Powered sites, plus Self-Contained Unpowered caravan sites have individual firepits on each site. All other Unpowered campsites share several communal firepits throughout the unpowered camp area.
Please note – BYO firewood.
Mechanical repairs – basic mechanical repairs are available in an emergency and can be arranged through Reception.
Fuel – is NOT for sale at Cobbold Village, so we recommend you top up at Forsayth (43km away) on the way through.
Phone & internet – if you’re with Telstra (not with a Telstra service provider, e.g. Aldi, Boost etc) – there is limited Telstra mobile phone coverage at Cobbold Village around the Bistro plus front deck at Reception using your own phone and data.
Free (limited) guest Wi-Fi is also available, again, around the Bistro and front deck at Reception.
Note – due to our remote location, there are no fast connectivity or speeds (we’re on a Booster from the Telstra Tower at Forsayth 43km away). To ensure all guests can access the service, we limit each connection to 512KBPS, and during busy times may reduce this even further.
Please avoid using high bandwidth services and applications while you’re here – perhaps enjoy a Digital Detox instead? Thanks for your understanding.
You’re on holiday and still want to be comfortable – even if you’re travelling through the outback. At Cobbold Village, you’ll have access to a range of accommodation options plus modern facilities and conveniences to ensure you have an enjoyable stay, while discovering one of Far North Queensland’s rare natural wonders.
